What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website leaves on your device so it can recognise you on the next page load. Some cookies are strictly necessary — without them the site would not remember your language choice or the fact that you already dismissed the cookie banner. Others are used for anonymised analytics or, on many commercial sites, for advertising and tracking across the whole web. UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, as amended by the UK GDPR in 2021) says that only the strictly necessary category can be set without your consent; everything else — analytics, advertising, personalisation — needs an explicit opt-in and must remain off until you actively choose otherwise. That is the standard we hold ourselves to on this site, and it is why the cookie banner is honest: 'accept' really means accept, and 'reject' really means reject, without a pre-ticked box hidden in a secondary menu.

Third-party cookies
We do not embed third-party advertising, retargeting, or social-media login widgets on this site, so there are no third-party cookies set by ad networks or social platforms — no Meta pixel, no Google Ads remarketing tag, no LinkedIn Insight, no TikTok pixel, nothing. When you click an outbound link to Duelana, you leave our domain and the operator's own cookies take over — please read their cookie policy on their site if you want the detail. If you want to block cookies altogether, every modern browser lets you do it in three clicks under Privacy settings; the site will still work, it will just forget your language choice between visits. If you want a more forceful option, browser extensions such as uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger block third-party cookies and trackers across the whole web, not just on individual sites.

Which we use
On duelana.co.uk we use two categories. Strictly necessary: one session cookie that stores your language selection and a second that remembers you dismissed the cookie banner, both of them first-party, both of them expire when you close the browser or after 30 days at the outside. Anonymised analytics: a privacy-focused counter (Plausible-style, running on our own infrastructure) that records the URL you visited and the country you visited from, without setting any cross-site tracker, without a device ID, and without an IP address stored beyond the request itself. We do not run advertising, retargeting, or social-media pixels. There is no cookie on this site that Duelana can read, and no cookie from Duelana is set here.
